The Garnet is a rare Treasure usually found in Ancient Ruins. Its purpose is only to be sold to obtain extra money for building gun towers and other miscellaneous items from the Villages. Garnets are also introduced in Dillon's Rolling Western: The Last Ranger the same way as before, though they also can be found in Treasure Rooms during a Treasure Hunt.
